MIAMI, FL – November 6, 2009: The Miami Dolphins announced today that the award-winning singer/songwriter and one of country music’s most celebrated recording artists, Mac McAnally, will be the main act at the Land Shark Tailgate Stage on the AT&T Grand Plaza on Sunday, November 15th, prior to the Dolphins-Buccaneers game, with a live performance starting at 12 noon.

2009 has become a big year for Mac McAnally, with a No. 1 hit followed by an acclaimed album release. As one of the most respected musicians of his era and member of Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band, he's used to playing for big crowds, so Mac will feel right at home when he headlines on the Land Shark Tailgate Stage on November 15th.

McAnallys was recently honored with ASCAP and Nashville Songwriters Association International awards for "Down The Road," his No. 1 song with Kenny Chesney, which Mac also wrote. The two are nominated for the 2009 CMA's Musical Event of the Year Category, which will be awarded during the November 11 national telecast on ABC from Nashville. Mac is also nominated for CMA's Musician of the Year, an honor he won in 2008. The Miami date is part of a perpetually packed itinerary, between his solo dates and touring with Buffett.

Named to the Songwriters' Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Mississippi Music Hall of Fame in 2008, McAnally has written six No. 1 singles in his career -- including "Down The Road," which topped the charts in the spring. From Hollywood to hometowns self-esteem is an issue that has become a crisis in this country. There are no socioeconomic barriers to this problem shown to keep women from realizing their fullest potentials. The personal lives of Rihanna, Halle Berry, Tina Turner and Madonna have all been examples of how unhealthy relationships affects even celebrated successful women. In light of that, the GLOW Workshop/Presentation Tour will kick off in June of 2009 visiting 5 cities throughout Florida, beginning in Miami, Fl. These workshops are designed to equip girls and women with the tools to overcome beauty pressures and to help them realize their potentials for success. It is part of the GLOW/InnerG, Institute for Life’s Performances’ goal of mentoring and educating 100,000 women across the U.S. and equipping them with a strategy for achieving healthy self-esteem by including them in activities and discussions about beauty, body image and self-confidence.

Girls’ and young women’s self esteem issues have become increasingly prominent in the news and of concern to loved ones. A Dove study, Real Girls, Real Pressure: A National Report on the State of Self-Esteem, shows seven in ten girls believe they are not good enough or do not measure up in some way, including their looks, performance in school and relationships with friends and family. An alarming 50% of women say their body disgusts them and 75% of girls with low self-esteem reported engaging in negative activities such as disordered eating, cutting, smoking or drinking when feeling badly about themselves (compared to 25% of girls with high self-esteem). Education and strong role models increases the likelihood that girls and women will pursue their dreams or become leaders.

An upcoming community event – GLOW – is a comprehensive educational workshop/presentation that will provide self-esteem education for girls and young women ages 18-35 facilitated by a strong role model. Education helps stimulate awareness, raise living standards, reduces low self-esteem. Role Model, Dr. Trevicia Williams, a psychologist, author and speaker, will be facilitating the workshops. Dr. Williams is also a former child bride (in a placement marriage at the age of 14) and teenage mother which capacitates her to reach girls and young women. Her life experiences and accomplishments are crucial aspects of the educational workshops. Saturday, July 4th, the legendary IndepenDANCE Pool and Beach Party returns for its fifth straight year. In an extremely rare daytime appearance, two of the true pioneers of the American house music scene, Danny Tenaglia and Victor Calderone, will be converging on the Surfcomber Hotel pool for a massive afternoon and evening of electrifying beats. Even the most neophyte dance music fan will recognize these legends. With a career spanning over thirty years, Danny Tenaglia is known around the world for defining the term, "marathon set", with a ten-hour stretch being an average night at work for this defining DJ. Behind the decks and in the studio, Danny has been at the forefront of every major dance music movement over the course of his career, from house, to progressive, to techno and beyond. Unable to be categorized, fans will simply describe his style as "Danny", as his sets have to be experienced to be believed.

As if Danny was not enough for a massive afternoon, IndepenDANCE will bring out another legend, Victor Calderone. Learning his first DJing tricks from Danny himself over twenty years ago, Victor Calderone is no stranger to massive crowds or fame. LOS ANGELES, CA (May 22, 2009) - Los Angeles Lakers star Jordan Farmar and friends are coming together for two days this summer for the inaugural Jordan Farmar Celebrity Golf Classic and Gala benefiting The Jordan Farmar Foundation. “DIRRRTY HARRIET TUBMAN” AND MOCK MOVIE POSTERS OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN ICONS CHALLENGE 1970s BLAXPLOITATION REPRESENTATIONS


ArtCenter Shows Subversive Exhibit by 12 Graphic Artists – Opens June 12, 2009

MIAMI BEACH, FL (May 19, 2009) – ArtCenter/South Florida (“ACSF”) turns Blaxploitation on its “sweet baadasssss” with Freedom Fighters: American Legends Re-Imagined. Opening on Friday, June 12 at 7:00 p.m. and on view through July 19, 2009, 12 graphic artists from across the country have designed mock posters of iconic African Americans including Harriet Tubman, Nat Turner and the Black Panthers. This subversive exhibition uses movie poster artwork to examine the 1970s Black Exploitation film genre and its role in casting contemporary truths and challenging fixed notions of history. Curated by Roderick Southall of Obsidian Arts (MN) with the assistance of Jacquenette Arnette, ArtCenter Director of Exhibitions, Freedom Fighters at 800 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach, is free and open to the public. “ArtCenter/South Florida’s exhibitions strive to test audiences’ perceptions and understanding of contemporary art and artists,” said Jeremy Chestler, ACSF Executive Director. “Freedom Fighters provides visitors with an ironic and intelligent look at common assumptions and stereotypes of African American activists and their role in defining popular culture.”

Participating artists include Arvay Adams, Michael Paul Britto, Ernest Arthur Bryant III, Caiphus, Roger Cummings, Detekh, Christopher Harrison, Rodney Jackson, Jason Scott Jones, Kobe Mowatt, Duane Smith and Shalette Cauley Wandrick.

Freedom Fighters comprises a powerful mix of fact, myth and perspectives, with illustrations depicting the historical journey of African American people in popular media in the United States. The exhibit forces its audience to question what they know about the featured equal rights activists by presenting them outside of their historical context with pieces titled “Madam C.J. Walker: The Black Godmother (There’s a new godmother in town);” “Sojourner Truth: Truth’s her name, justice is her game, can you face… the truth;” “Harriet: Queen of Spades;” and “Nat Turner: He clobbers the white man as black belt Killmaster Jones”.

“The Freedom Fighters project examines the discourse of Black icons from a wide range of subject positions – humor, satire, irony,” said LeRonn P. Brooks, guest writer with Rush Arts Gallery and lecturer at New York University and Parsons School of Design (NY). “The artists in this exhibit use the poster as platform to turn these histories on their heads by conflating and scattering time, narrative and allegory, while challenging the notion of the Black body as a nation’s image, or as a super moral or immoral icon.”

While movies often receive the glory for shifting popular social understandings, movie posters create both anticipation for the film and canonize its message. Freedom Fighters’ artists isolate the poster medium as a communication tool and take aim at the fixed history of an American legend. They play with meaning and assumptions, recasting the 1970s genre’s characters as “Blaxploitation Superstars.”

“Subliminal” to Tour US in Less than one Month


Non-Profit Organization Brings Hit Israeli Hip Hop Artist “Subliminal” and TACT Family for a Peace Tour in the United States April 30 - May 17
Chicago, IL ­ April 17, 2009 ­ Club 1948 – Miami, a branch of the Chicago- based non-profit organization, Club 1948 (www.myclub1948.org), has it’s flagship event, top Isreali hip-hop band Subliminal, performing at Revolutions on May 5th at 7:00 pm. Subliminal has several performances scheduled during this tour starting in Chicago on April 30th and closing in Los Angeles May 17th.

Club 1948 is dedicated to bridging the gap between American young adult culture and that overseas – particularly in Israel. The organization, which was founded in 2007 by Israeli native Barak Gilor and Chicago resident Becky Adelberg, has grown to encompass a wide breadth of young professionals from various cultures working for one common goal. Club 1948’s mission is to connect Israelis and Americans to the state of Israel by bringing social, cultural and educational events to the community’s doorsteps in major cities around the U.S. including Miami, New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Chicago.

The Subliminal tour this spring plans to be Club 1948’s biggest event yet. Subliminal, a top hip-hop group in Israel, has performed with AKON, 50 Cent, Ashanti and Wyclef Jean. Well-known for their Israeli pride, desire for peace and patriotic lyrics, Subliminal uses their music to encourage and inspire fans all over the world to live in peace and understanding. Chicago-based hip hop artist and community activist, Brother Enoch "N.O.C.," Muhammad of Hip Hop Detoxx and the Chicago rapper, Focus1, are scheduled to open for Subliminal when they perform in Chicago on April 30.

“This show is not just about music, it’s about unifying cultures and spreading a message of peace, which is exactly what our organization is meant to do. KATHY KISSIK

My aim is to make art that simultaneously engage the conscious and unconscious minds. Perspectives are pieced together into a different interpretation of reality, thus giving the impression of a time and place. Not in a linear presentation, but one that is founded upon mood and memory.

I create one of kind multimedia constructions using paints, metals, photos, plaster, wood, and a variety of other materials. I photograph my subjects with a medium format camera from varying vantage points and over a course of several days. In this way I am able to capture the nuances of shadow, light, and change. Surfaces, textures, and content figure prominently into the artworks. I also take into account the properties of the materials used. Colors, numbers, and metals are in themselves a complete vocabulary. The “unconscious alphabet” that speaks to the collective mind.

Many of my pieces are made intuitively, although every minute part of it is deliberate. From the paper and toning process, to the metals, objects, and scale, it is all part of the language used to communicate the story of the artwork.

This coming year I will create a body of work utilizing computer scanners and printers. I will photograph my subjects with a Pentax 6x7 medium format camera and a digital camera. By combining traditional photographic methods with digital, I will explore the subtle variations in analogue verses logarithmic format. I envision the addition of this technological element as a compliment and natural evolution to my one of kind constructions.

I am interested with the evolution of technology as a microcosm for life itself. With this in mind, I am impassioned about embracing new mediums and creative possibilities.

A large component of my work has always been about the effects of time. The inevitable change that occurs through decay and motion is a unifying theme in my artwork. It is a metaphor of the human condition.

Fort Lauderdale, FL (April 15, 2009) – Michelle and Tommy Pooch and Alan Roth are proud to present the 11th Annual Fashion Art Ball, set for Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the recently renovated Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach. This wonderful, eclectic event will include a top-notch fashion show featuring designers such as Roberto Cavalli and Luca Luca, a silent auction highlighting the works of local and international artists, and a special performance by R&B legend Joe. All proceeds benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Guests also will be treated to an open bar, and fabulous food from local restaurants including Table 8, 8 oz Burger, Yuca, Red’s Steakhouse, David’s Café, Pacific Time, Gaia, Michy’s, Segafredo’s, Solo in the Fontainebleau, and Taverna Opa. DJ Irie will provide music for dancing and Louis Aguirre from WSVN Channel 7 will serve as master of ceremonies.
