L*Space by Monica Wise

Debuted her 2010 swim collection in the Cabana Grande at the Raleigh Hotel

A favorite with Hollywood’s hippest – from Cameron Diaz to Jessica Alba—L*Space by Monica Wise has graced the covers of countless magazines. Known for extraordinary silhouettes and flattering fits, Monica’s much-coveted designs easily go from beach time to play time. L*Space by Monica Wise is available at Saks Fifth Avenue and specialty boutiques around the world.

Question: Where did you get your inspiration for your 2010 collection?
Answer: I get inspiration mostly from jewelry. Most of my pieces include hardware detailing which is inspired by a piece of jewelry that I own. I was also inspired by the Brazilian culture as I have introduced a new skimpier fit to a few of the bottoms this season.

Question: What adjective would you use to describe this collection and explain why?
Answer: Dynamic. L*Space produces a progressive line in regards to forecasting future trends and creating patters, silhouettes and colors that align with the trends and also creates it’s own trends. The line if full of energy and vibrant in the way it uses colors.

Question: How did you decide on what colors to use?
Answer: I’m drawn to any color that pops and makes me smile. This year’s color palates of limon, orange, yellow and my favorite royal blue all have that 80’s feel which I was inspired by. All of my prints also match back to at least 3 different solids in my collection which enables L*Space coinsures to mix and match to create a look all their own.

Question: When deciding on the material what did you look for?
Answer: Quality and feel. I’m drawn to fabrics that feel soft to the touch. I look for elasticity and if a fabric will move well on a body. This year, I’ve introduced a “green” slinky fabric. It’s a Sarona fabric and it’s made from naturally occurring starch in corn kernels and uses less energy to produce as well. I’ve always been conscious about our environment and using a fabric like this makes me feel like I am doing my part to keep our earth as clean as possible.

Question: What makes your line stand out from the rest?
Answer: I think that when consumers see my collection, they see something for everyone. I have numerous silhouettes in my collection as well as different fits. It’s a happy collection and I think consumers appreciate the diversity in the prints, fits, and styles that I offer. Often times, you’ll see the same thing year after year from different designers, but I feel it’s important to mix it up and offer something new every year.

Question: What celebrity would you love to see wearing one of your designs and explain why?
Answer: I’ve been very fortunate to have a great celebrity clientele so far. From Jessica Alba to Cameron Diaz these are girls that I feel personify the L*Space woman. They are beautiful, energetic, and have amazing bodies. But if I could get my suit on anyone, I’d love to see Rhianna. She’s a strong, beautiful woman with an amazing body. She’s look amazing in L*Space.

Question: Tell us what we have to look forward to from your next collection?
Answer: New silhouettes and whimsical prints that the brand is known for.

The look of the night was created by hair sponsor ghd who glammed out the gorgeous models with sky high hair. Make-up sponsor Make-up Forever painted each pout with the brightest lip colors of the season while celebrity manicurist and M2M nail care creator Myrdith Leon-McCormack painted each nail and toe with her glittering gold polish. Jewelry provided by Citrine by the Stones added the finishing touch to an otherwise impeccable swimsuit collection. Music by Los Angeles DJ RocDusa kept the energy of the show alive with an exclusive music mix. Not to be counted as just any fashion show, L*Space offered an element of surprise to the end of the show by dimming house lights and introducing two African Drummers on stage playing a drum solo which signified the introduction to L*Space by Monica Wise’s exclusive 16 piece swim collaborative collection with humanitarian fashion company OmniPeace. Here, models danced down the runway to Bob Marley’s “Could you be Loved” in the collection that donates 20% of sales to helping fight hunger in Africa by 2025.

On Friday, July 17th Mercedes-Benz Presents Designer L*Space by Monica Wise debuted her 2010 swim collection in the Cabana Grande at the Raleigh Hotel during Fashion Week Miami. With a jammed packed house of photographers, esteemed retailers, Miami Beach tastemakers, and a slew of front row celebrity sightings, the L*Space by Monica Wise show was one not to be missed. With more than 500 guests in attendance photographers snapped images of MTV’s The City star Whitney Port and friend Roxy Olin as they waited anxiously for the show to begin. Other front row talent in attendance included 90201 star Adam Gregory, E! News’s Catt Saddler and Jason Kennedy, Dancing with the Stars winner and Sex and the City hottie Gilles Marini, Burn Notice’s Jeffery Donovan, and Real Housewives of New York’s Kelly Bensimon.

A special thanks to Monica Wise for taking time away from her busy Mercedes Benz Fashion Week schedule to interview with Lmh Mag. The show was outSTANDING!!
