Artists For Humanity

Artists For Humanity's mission is to bridge economic, racial and social divisions by providing underserved youth with the keys to self-sufficiency through paid employment in the arts.

Since 1991, Artists For Humanity has been empowering and employing Boston teens in an intensive program of arts, creativity and enterprise. AFH partners youth in small groups with professional artists/designers to design, create and sell art products. With fully equipped studios in seven artistic media, youth and mentors collaborate on creative projects, many specifically commissioned by clients. In the process, young artists develop entrepreneurial skills, and introduce audiences to the voice, vision and virtuosity of today’s youth. Artists For Humanity has produced fine art and creative products for most of Boston’s largest firms and organizations, and last year alone earned over $1M in sales.

In 2004, Artists For Humanity established its headquarters, the Artists For Humanity EpiCenter, in the Fort Point Arts District of Boston. Built to meet the highest levels of sustainability set by the US Green Building Council, the building informs our youth about issues of environmental stewardship, and serves as an inspiration and backdrop for their creativity. Named one of the Top Ten Green Buildings in the country, and one of the 5 Most Beautiful Buildings in Boston, it provides a fitting venue for perhaps the largest permanent collection of youth-created fine art and design in the nation.

The Artists For Humanity model is being disseminated internationally to organizations that utilize our framework of respect, relationships, and responsibility to empower young people in their communities. Now, Artists For Humanity is taking the voice of its young people to new and larger audiences. Partnering with Merida Meridian, AFH will showcase new home décor designs at the Architectural Digest Home Design Show in New York City on March 18 – 21, 2010.

ArtCenter’s exhibition season of contemporary art highlights the work of both juried and guest artists. Exhibits are presented year-round in ArtCenter’s 800 Lincoln Road Gallery and exhibition windows at 800, 810, 924 Lincoln Road, and our Windows at Walgreen’s locations.

Exhibitions are selected based on the quality of the work and the applicants’ ability to bring the proposal to fruition.

An exhibition committee of arts professionals awards exhibitions to proposed projects which explore traditional or experimental genres in art, thematic expressions, community dialogue and the role of art and artists in contemporary culture.

Free and open to the general public, ArtCenter’s exhibitions offer juried and guest artists the opportunity for public exposure of their work to hundreds of thousands of residents and visitors annually.
